Quotes from Joanne’s Columns

After more than a decade without attending one, my husband and I suddenly found ourselves swept into a wave of weddings this past year; six, to be exact. I’m actually writing now from a seat on a plane, heading home from a breathtaking celebration of love in Amsterdam, where my niece Gabrielle married the love of her life, Oleksa, a beautiful soul from Ukraine.

And while the goodbyes can make our hearts heavy, life has a beautiful way of handing us new beginnings just when we need them. A dear friend of mine just became a grandmother—her joy is radiant. This weekend, we went from visiting her sweet newborn grandson at the farmer’s market to saying goodbye to another dear friend now in hospice. That’s the reality, isn’t it? One breath in… and one breath out. Life truly is a series of hellos and goodbyes.
